Dr. Detweiler looks to incorporate his personal experiences in athletics into his treatment to speed recovery, maximize performance, and improve overall function. Dr. Detweiler is a native of Iowa and was an offensive guard at the University of Iowa from 2007-2010. During his time at Iowa, the Hawkeyes saw multiple success seasons including bowl wins in 2009 (Outback Bowl) and 2010 (Orange Bowl) and a final BCS ranking of #7 in the nation at the end of the 2009-2010 season. Since his football career, Dr. Detweiler has also competed in powerlifting and strongman.
Dr. Detweiler works with patients of all types from acute low back pain, to preventative health and wellness, to athletes looking to gain a competitive edge through performance-based care. Dr. Detweiler’s goals for each patient, whether competitive athletes or not, are to identify the cause of their ailments and develop a strategy to fix and prevent the reoccurrence of these injuries.
Dr. Detweiler has provided care for athletes across all sports and all levels, from high school to professional athletes. The majority of his experience with athletes comes from the previous 4 years spent providing care in Division-1 athletics. From 2014 to 2015, Dr. Detweiler spent 8 months as member of the Sports Medicine Team at MIZZOU and provided chiropractic care to all 18 Tiger varsity sports under Associate AD of Sports Medicine, Rex L. Sharp and colleague, Dr. Jose Ramirez. From there, He finished his Master’s of Science in Sports Rehabilitation with the Sports Medicine team at the University of Memphis and was the official Chiropractic Physician for Memphis Athletics from 2015-2018. As a member of the Memphis Sports Medicine team, Dr. Detweiler provided care for all of the Tiger’s varsity sports, with an emphasis on football and track and field.
Dr. Detweiler also provides care for a wide range of strength sports athletes including powerlifting, strongman, bodybuilding, highland games, weightlifting, and CrossFit. These athletes have ranged from amateur to professional strength athletes.
Along with clinical care, Dr. Detweiler also contributes to providing continuing education opportunities for patients, athletes, and other health care professional. He enjoys writing articles and educational content for our site and is also a columnist with Elitefts.com. Dr. Detweiler is also a national and international instructor for Reflexive Performance Reset clinics. A Mid-Westerner at heart, Tyrel spends his time enjoying the outdoors hunting, fishing, and exploring the country in his Jeep with his girlfriend, Margaret, a Columbus native, and their dog, Bruce.
